How did we test our gun picks and choose the top 3?
The first thing was to inspect each one of them. We looked at how many locking points they had, what type of lock system they used (if any), where their hinges were located if there were any signs of wear and tear on it from use or manufacturing defects, as well as other details about its appearance.
Next up is strength testing! To ensure all three met our safety requirements, we put these safes through a barrage of tests by prying with crowbars on various parts like the door panels, corners, and handles until finally popping open the top lid. All three passed this test with flying colors.
We also used a safe-cracking device to try and open the safes by drilling into them; All three again passed this test.
Finally, we put all three gun safes in water for 24 hours each to see whether they float or sink. All three passed this test as well!
The last thing was thermal testing. To do that, we set fire on one side with an accelerant like gasoline while opening up the other door of two at a time. We then waited 15 minutes before rating their performance based on how much heat had made its way inside. And check whether it affected any internal components such as wiring or lock systems. But we did not see any damage on the internal components of both fireproof gun safes.
Afterward, we threw buckets of ice-cold water over the safe to see how the fire reacted.
We’re very confident that these three gun safes are some of the best on our list and will offer your gun protection for years to come!
What are The Things You Must Consider Before Buying A Gun Safe Under $1500
Buying a gun safe is a lot like buying any other item. You can’t just buy the first one you see; you need to consider your needs and budget before making a decision. What are your storage requirements? How much space do you have available for the safe? Is it necessary that it be fireproof or water-resistant? Do you want something with biometric access so only authorized users can open it? These are all important questions to ask yourself when looking for the perfect gun safe under $1500.
This section will answer these questions and more by providing an overview of 10 factors that should be considered when purchasing a gun safe under $1500.
Size That fits and meets your needs:
For most people, the size of the gun safe is a defining factor. Gun safes are available in different sizes and budgets to accommodate every need. If you have a limited budget let’s say you have 500 dollars for a gun safe then it is wise to have the best gun safe within budget under $500. If you have limited space or want something that takes up less room, then consider getting smaller models for at-home use.
Larger gun safes may be better suited for those who need to store larger amounts of guns or want a more secure place for their firearms.
But the rule of thumb is to choose a gun safe, which size is larger than your needs because you can always use the extra space for storing other valuables.
Build Quality is must to consider:
The build quality is important because it determines the durability and longevity of your gun safe. The build quality also varies from one manufacturer to another.
You can find a huge selection of gun safes with different levels of durability, security, and fire protection features. There are those that offer minimal protection at an affordable price, while others come fully loaded with high-end materials.
If you check the cheaper model, it may seem like a good deal, but the metal is thinner and will not protect your firearms from being damaged during a fire. Also, these cheap models gun safe can be accessed with just a hammer or few minutes of drilling.
Manual or Biometric Access:
There are two types of access generally available for most gun safes- manual and biometrics. Manual access is when you use an electronic keypad to enter what’s known as a Personal Identification Number (PIN) and then a code to open the safe.
Biometric access is when you use your fingerprint or some other biometric identifier (iris scan, for example). Biometrics has become more popular as it’s easier and quicker than using keypads and is much safer because there are no codes that intruders can easily crack.
Biometric locks are an added cost, but it’s worth the expense if you have many firearms that need to be stored in one place and don’t want them easily accessible to those who shouldn’t touch them.
Fireproofing Gives you additional security Edge
Fireproofing is an added cost but worth it as well. It’s a good idea to buy a gun safe with at least 30-minutes of fire protection, and some safes will have 60, 90, or more minutes of fire protection (the higher the number, the better). If you are looking for a safe that can be bolted down, make sure it’s been fire tested to UL 72 standards.
Thicker steel walls Give nightmare to the burglars
Gun safes are typically made of plate steel with a thickness between 12 mm and 16mm gauge. Here is a fun fact don’t go with the greater gauge number because the theory of steel gauge says the lower the steel gauge, the greater the thickness of the steel and vice versa.
So Check the steel gauge and divided it by 1″, and it will give you the thickness of the steel. For example, if you choose a 12 mm gauge gun safe and want to know the thickness of the steel, simply divide it by 1, which is 1/12 or 0.0834-inch steel thickness.
Spacious inside For Storing more Guns
The exterior size of the gun safe will not tell you how spacious it is on the inside. So you should check how many guns it can hold and also the items you want to store in them.
Aesthetics: It’s Additional Dude!
If aesthetics are important to you, then consider how a gun safe will look on your wall. If you don’t care much about the look of your gun safe, then maybe this is less important to you.
Warranty is must for peace of mind After Buying
Warranty is vital so that if anything breaks, you can get it fixed or replaced. Most safes come with a warranty against fire, burglary, and unauthorized entry. The length of the warranty varies from one company to another. A typical guarantee is for five years, but some companies offer ten or more year warranties. In general, your best bet will be to buy safe brands that have been in business for many years because they are more likely to honor their warranties.
Consider Weight of gun safe
The weight of the safe is also a significant factor to consider. The average gun safe weighs around 200-600 pounds, so you want your new one to be easily manageable with just two people if needed. This will minimize any undue strain on yourself or your helper and make transporting the unit easier.
Ease Of Installation Also Matters
The installation of the safe is crucial. An expensive and quality gun safe can be rendered useless if you cannot install it properly. This situation may happen when there are not enough holes drilled into the concrete for bolting down the safe or when drilling any additional holes would weaken an already flawed area. The best way to install your new gun safe is to hire a professional installer who has experience installing these safes.
