Alabama

Blowguns using darts propelled by the hunter’s breath only are allowed in Alabama. Blowguns can be used to hunt birds and other small animals. The animals and birds you can hunt exclude Turkey, Migratory birds, Bobcat, Groundhog, fox, coyote, feral swine, Raccoon, and Opossum.

Alaska

Under Alaskan laws, there is no prohibition against using blowguns for hunting small animals. Blowguns can therefore be used legally to take down small game and pest control.

Arizona

Blowguns are not listed on the list of accepted methods and equipment for taking games in Arizona; as such, blowguns are illegal for hunting in Arizona.

Arkansas

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission regulations are silent on the use of blowguns. It is fair to say that at the moment, blowguns are not permissible in Arkansas for hunting.

California: Are Blowguns Legal in California?

According to California laws and regulations, it is illegal to possess a blowgun. As such, blowguns cannot be used for hunting or for any purpose in the state of California according to the California Penal Code section 20010.

Colorado

It is not legal to hunt wild animals using blowguns in Colorado. Also, fishing blowguns are not allowed. 

Connecticut

Connecticut laws and regulations are silent on blowgun hunting. It is fair to assume blowguns are not allowed in Connecticut as they are not on the list of permitted hunting firearms.

Delaware

Delaware’s accepted hunting firearms and equipment list does not include blowguns. Blowguns are also not captured on the prohibited methods of taking games.

Florida

In Florida, the use of blowguns for hunting is outlawed. As such, you cannot use a blowgun for hunting any animal in Florida with a blowgun.

Georgia

The laws in Georgia state that it is unlawful to hunt wildlife with any weapon except those allowed by regulations. Blowguns are not included on the list of permitted weapons, meaning they are not legal.

Hawaii

Generally, Hawaii laws prohibit the use and Possession of blowguns. It is thus fair to say that you cannot legally use a blowgun for hunting in Hawaii.

Idaho

Blowguns can be used to hunt unprotected species of animals in Idaho. However, a hunting license is required.

Illinois

In Illinois, blowguns are not listed on the list of permitted hunting devices and equipment. We would thus not suggest using a blowgun in Illinois.

Indiana

It is possible to use blowguns on small games as Possession of blowguns is legal in Indiana. Blowguns are not allowed for large games such as deer, though.

Iowa

Though not expressly provided for in law, the use of blowguns to hunt small game such as rabbits using a blowgun is legal in Iowa. 

Kansas

There is no mention of blowguns on the Kansas Department of wildlife and parks legal equipment and firearms list. 

Kentucky

The Kentucky blowgun hunting regulations state that it is illegal to use a blowgun to hunt small game such as squirrels.

Louisiana

In Louisiana, the use of blowguns to hunt is illegal. However, there is currently a bill to allow for the use of blowguns that is pending.

Maine

Like most other states, Maine’s list of permitted equipment and weapons for hunting does not include blowguns. Thus unless expressly provided for, it is illegal to use blowguns in Maine.

Maryland

It is legal to be in Possession of a blowgun in Maryland. However, you cannot use a blowgun for hunting any animal in the state.

Massachusetts

Massachusetts is among the number of states that prohibits the use and Possession of blowguns, including for hunting.

Michigan

Blowguns in Michigan are considered firearms and are thus legal for taking small game. However, you have to comply with all hunting regulations to hunt with a blowgun. 

Minnesota

Under Minnesota hunting rules, blowguns do not qualify to be considered hunting methods. Therefore, the use of blowguns for hunting is illegal.

Mississippi

The Mississippi wildlife and hunting regulations are silent on the use of blowguns. Blowguns are not mentioned on the permitted methods of taking small games.

Missouri

The Missouri Department of conservation is quiet on the use of blowguns for hunting. You may want to seek clarification from your local conservation agency on blowguns.

Montana

Only equipment and firearms outlined by the Montana Department of Fish, wildlife, and parks can be used for hunting. Blowguns are not included on that list.

Nebraska

In Nebraska, legal hunting equipment and weapons fall into two categories archery and firearms. Blowguns are, however, not listed in either of the two categories.

Nevada

New Hampshire

Blowguns are legal in New Hampshire; however, they are not considered humane for taking the game and are thus not legal for hunting.

New Jersey

Blowguns are not illegal in New Jersey, and you can use a fishing blowgun for fishing. Furthermore, you can use a blowgun for hunting small game.

New Mexico

New Mexico has no rules and regulations on the use of blowguns. It may thus be wise to consult your local department of wildlife and fisheries office on the same.

New York

New York is another state that outright prohibits the Possession and use of blowguns. As such, you cannot legally use blowguns for hunting in New York.

North Carolina

Blowguns are not included on the list of legal means of taking wild game in North Carolina. Neither do they qualify under the definition of archery equipment.

North Dakota

Blowguns do not appear on the list of legal methods of taking games in North Dakota. It is fair to say they are not permitted for hunting. 

Ohio

In Ohio, using a blowgun to take down game is considered an inhumane way of hunting. As such, they are not legally allowed for hunting.

Oklahoma

Oklahoma is another state whose laws are silent on the use of blowguns for hunting. It may be wise to consult your local department of wildlife and fisheries office.

Oregon

In Oregon, it is illegal to use a blowgun to hunt deer as it is considered an inhumane way to take deer.

Pennsylvania: Can you hunt with a blowgun in PA?

Pennsylvania is another state that has made it illegal to use blowguns for hunting. You can not use them for hunting any game in the state.

Rhode Island

Another state that has made it illegal to use blowguns for hunting is Rhode Island. Under the current laws, you cannot use a blowgun for hunting.

South Carolina

South Carolina does not provide laws and regulations on blowguns for hunting. It is safe to assume they are illegal as they are not listed on the list of legal methods of hunting.

South Dakota

South Dakota laws on hunting do not say anything regarding the use of blowguns. Consulting your local department of wildlife and fisheries may be important before using one to hunt.

Tennessee

You cannot use blowguns for hunting in Tennessee. While the laws are not expressed, blowguns are omitted from the list of legal ways of taking wild game.

Texas: Are Blowguns Legal In Texas?

In Texas, you can use a blowgun for hunting non-game animals, ranging from Armadillos and rabbits to Turtles. The same applies to fishing; you can use blowguns to fish non-game fish.

Utah

Utah hunting laws and regulations are silent on the use of blowguns for hunting. It may be okay to use blowguns to hunt certain small animals that are not considered wild games.

Vermont

In Vermont, blowguns do not fall under the classification of legal means of taking game. As such, you cannot use them for hunting.

Virginia

There is no mention of blowguns in the Virginia hunting regulations. You may use them to kill nuisance animals.

Washington

Washington state laws make it illegal for anyone to be in Possession or use blowguns for anything, including hunting.

West Virginia

Wisconsin

Blowguns are not legal in Wisconsin and are now included on the list of lawful means of taking game.

Wyoming

Wyoming has no laws and regulations on the use of blowguns. You may use them for hunting certain small animals that do not fall under the classification of wild game.
