There are many crossbow hunting regulations that vary depending on the state you live in. In this blog post, we will explore Florida crossbow laws and regulations. We will also include a list of the basic requirements for owning a crossbow in Florida.
Florida has a lot to offer bowhunters, from Osceola turkeys and hogs to alligator hunting in the swamps. But deer hunting is not one of those things that’s typically talked about much when it comes to Florida – until you factor in the rut. During the deer season, many big bucks will be on the prowl – and if you’re looking to take one down, a crossbow is your best bet.
Crossbow Hunting Regulations in Florida
A crossbow is not a toy, so buying and shooting with this weapon should only be done by following the safety guidelines that your state specifies. In Florida, there are some rules and regulations for using crossbows for hunting. Here are some of the basic requirements you will need to follow in order to deer hunt with a crossbow in Florida:
- In Florida, crossbows can be used during deer season as well as during crossbow season.
- Several permits are required, though. This includes a Florida hunting license, crossbow hunting permit, and a deer permit for deer hunters.
- Five deer annual bag limit, of which no more than two can be antlerless.
- a bow has a minimum draw weight of 35 pounds
- hand-held releases are permitted
- You can mount sights or laser scope on your crossbow during archery season.
- Arrowheads on crossbows must be at least 7/8 inches wide with at least two edges.
- It is legal to use scopes on crossbows.
- The crossbow must also have been manufactured after 1980 and be equipped with mechanical safety to be legal.
- You can not transport your crossbow while being in a cocked position.
- You can dog only to get help to trail any wounded game animal.
You can harvest antlered and antlerless deer from Florida state archery seasons, and that part of crossbow season coincides with Archery Season, as long as the deer have less than 5-inch antlers. Unfortunately, you’re limited to taking Antlerless Deer during DMU’s A1.
